Thank you all for the well-wishes for my sister! The surgery went well and the cancer seemed contained. The pathology report won't be ready until next week, so now it's another waiting game to see what her next course of treatment will be. It's also looking like she'll be getting the radioactive iodine to kill off any remaining thyroid tissue and cancer cells. A quick Google search told me what that means; a week of total isolation. O_O

Wishing her continued success and saying a prayer for her and your family. I know from experience what a difficult time this can be.

That's great! I'll keep praying for her.
I think at this point, Luke is so done with Jacklyn. I don't blame him. What she did was a total invasion of privacy.

I wouldn't wish cancer on my worst enemy. I don't understand why something as horrible as cancer has to exist. I'm glad that the surgery went well, but I regret that your sister has to be in isolation for a week. This all seems very grueling. Ask God to watch over your sister during these harsh times. Also, I have read research online that cancer is linked to a bacteria in your gut known as "candida", and that taking acidophilus pills, which is the good bacteria, helps prevent an unhealthy ratio of bad bacteria to good bacteria in your gut from forming, thereby reducing a person's chances of developing cancer.

Now, about today's update. I hope Luke does manage to get rid of Jacklyn. I couldn't tolerate someone invading my bedroom and reading my dreams either!

Candida are fungi. Such as the one which causes thrush. Not bacteria.
Cancer is usually caused (on a biomolecular level, at least) by mutations in the genes which control cell replication, causing the cells to multiply uncontrollably. Various further mutations prevent the cells from responding to cell-signalling molecules which would normally trigger autolysis and/or inhibit replication.

Well I did some research based on your response and found that some practitioners of "alternative medicine" believe that there is a link between cancer and the fungus candida. Acidophilus, a probiotic, is known to kill off candida. Since this link hasn't been acknowledged by mainstream science I apologize for making the above claim. And yes, you are right, candida is a fungus and not a bacteria, but it is considered part of the "Gut Flora" that live in all people's intestines alongside bacteria, so I get confused sometimes. Sorry if I offended anybody.

No worries, you didn't offend me :-) Just thought I ought to correct the inaccuracies, especially since they related to health issues

My grandmother once went through this process and I can tell you it's no picnic. The loneliness and boredom is the main enemy for that week. The best thing to do is to drop by and leave letters frequently. 'Course, back when my grandmother went through this there weren't any cellphones or anything so... yay, texting.

If they let you you might also be able to drop in some home cooking. It's really the little things that count.

Luke might want to look up "Overreaction" in the dictionary. She's too awesome to be unmade over such a trifle!

Hopefully your sister responded well to the initial treatment, and things continue to improve for her.
