My 11 yr old niece happened to see me working on the page and squealed, "She's finally using magic!" I tried to remind her that we've already seen her use magic. She replied, "But this is real magic!" Personally, I see this as a basic energy blast. When I think of magic, I think of spells. And no matter how many times I try to look at it, energy based attacks will always remind me of "Dragon Ball".

Were the costumes magic? They're there in panel 4, and they're pretty much gone in panel 5.

Or perhaps they were only imagined?

They were made out of paper.

They were real, but made out of rice which was transformed into the gum wrappers by the bag. Once water touches the transformed item(s), it returns to its original form.

Yeah. I can see the Dragon Ball Z thing. It could also be a Naruto thing, or even like a fire bender from Avatar TLAB. Yeah, you're right. I don't really consider that "magic." I see it as a special ability of some sort. Yeah. That's interesting...

Magic Missile
Evocation [Force]
Level: Sor/Wiz 1
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Targets: Up to five creatures, no two of which can be more than 15 ft. apart
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes
A missile of magical energy darts forth from your fingertip and strikes its target, dealing 1d4+1 points of force damage.

The missile strikes unerringly, even if the target is in melee combat or has less than total cover or total concealment. Specific parts of a creature can’t be singled out.

For every two caster levels beyond 1st, you gain an additional missile—two at 3rd level, three at 5th, four at 7th, and the maximum of five missiles at 9th level or higher. If you shoot multiple missiles, you can have them strike a single creature or several creatures. A single missile can strike only one creature. You must designate targets before you check for spell resistance or roll damage.

Wait - a maximum at level 9?

Why do I get the feeling I wasn't the only one who abused the hell out of that spell. Admittedly, this is also a version of the spell after TSR realized almost nobody was using that spell correctly (when it had a duration of 1 turn, you cast the spell on one round, and fired on another up to 10 rounds later. So, um, cast, cast, cast, cast, cast, cast, cast, cast, open door, fire. Why doesn't this DM make any dungeons with anything that survives longer than one round of combat? I can't imagine why....)
